Sportfishing charters at Los Suenos Marina, Herradura

Costa Rica’s tournament marina, an hour from the airport

Los Sueños Marina at Playa Herradura is the closest world-class sportfishing to San José, roughly ninety minutes from the international airport, which makes it the practical choice for a short trip or a first day in country. It is also the home of the Signature Triple Crown, the tournament series that draws the biggest boats in Central America.

We track 4 operations here. The fleet skews large and well equipped, and the marina itself has the restaurants, fuel, and services that make a fishing day easy with a non-fishing partner along.

Before you book, one honest note. Prices, departure times, and what is included move with the season here. Boats come out of the water for maintenance and operators adjust rates without telling anyone first. The details on this page are what we last confirmed with the operator, and we go back and check them, but your booking is with them and their confirmation is the final word. If a detail matters to your trip, ask us before you book and we will confirm it directly rather than guess.

Common questions

How far is Los Suenos from the airport?

About ninety minutes from Juan Santamaría in San José, which is why it works well as a first or last day rather than a long drive south.

Is Los Suenos better than Quepos?

Different, not better. Los Sueños is closer to the airport with a bigger tournament fleet. Quepos is closer to Manuel Antonio and has more boats to choose from. If you are already staying in Manuel Antonio, fish Quepos.

Can non-anglers come along?

Yes, and the marina is set up for it, with restaurants and a resort right there. Tell us and we will pick a boat with the shade and the space for it.

No cost to you
