Guanacaste is the sunny half of the Pacific: flatter, drier, hotter, with long beaches and an airport (Liberia) an hour from most of it. Tamarindo and Playa Langosta are the center of it, Hacienda Pinilla is the gated beach and golf estate just south, and Flamingo, Conchal, and Playa Grande sit up the coast. Nosara is a different world an hour and a half south, surf and yoga and no streetlights.
The houses here run bigger than anywhere else in the country. Whole-family estates with ten to seventeen bedrooms are normal, which is why this is where we send groups of twenty and up who want one roof, one pool, and one long table.
Big family reunions, wedding parties, and anyone flying into Liberia. If you want rainforest at the door, look at Manuel Antonio instead; the trade here is sun and space.
