A fenced, private estate in Surfside, a residential neighborhood at Playa Potrero in Guanacaste, rented whole to one group at a time. Up to 13 bedrooms and 40 guests today, with a fourteenth bedroom opening for stays from mid-May 2027. It is not on the sand, but the owners put the beach about a three to five minute walk away, with restaurants and shops on the way.
The rooms sit around three saltwater pools, a private bar, and shaded tropical gardens with fruit growing on the grounds, pineapples among them. There is a massage room, a poker table, and space for yoga or meditation, so part of the group can be in the pool while others take a class or a nap. It works for destination weddings, retreats, reunions, milestone trips, and families traveling together.
The estate's five-bedroom villa, for up to 13, also books on its own. We list the whole property as GU-88. Tell us your dates, group size, and the occasion, and we confirm availability and the exact total with the owner, then sort out the rest: transfers from Liberia, a private chef, and tours.
Not one big house: separate buildings and wings set around the gardens, with the three pools, the bar, a dining and lounge area, a yoga platform, and a cabana in between. Every room is its own private space with a door to close, and the shared areas are big enough that the whole group can eat and swim together. We send the room plan privately once you are close to booking, so you know exactly which rooms come with your choice.
The estate is modular: you book the number of rooms your group needs, and the price follows. On an estate booking, rooms outside your choice stay locked and empty, so nobody else is on the grounds.
The five-bedroom villa has the queen room, three of the king rooms, and the room with the double and the bunk. Extra beds, and kings split into two twins, are available on request.
The estate is set up to be the group's base for the whole week, not just the night of the party: arrivals and a casual first dinner, a welcome day by the pool or out on an excursion, the wedding itself, and a slow brunch the morning after with nobody rushing off to separate hotels.
The estate sits just off the main road in Surfside, the residential south end of Potrero, and the owners say the beach is about a three to five minute walk. Playa Potrero is a calm, sheltered bay facing west, so it is swimmable most days, good for kayaks and paddleboards, and the sun sets straight over the water. There are no lifeguards, so swim with care and keep an eye on the kids. The sand is dark and gets hot by the afternoon, and shade on the beach is limited.
On foot in Surfside: the beach, two small supermarkets, a craft brewery with food trucks in its beer garden, a pizzeria, and a few pubs and beach bars with live music. Evenings here are dinner and music rather than a big night out.
A short drive: Playa Penca (about five minutes), Playa Flamingo and its marina (about eight minutes), Brasilito (about 11 minutes), and Playa Danta with the car-free town of Las Catalinas (about 13 minutes). Potrero's own bay is not a surf beach; surf lessons happen at Playa Grande or Tamarindo. Liberia airport is about an hour and a half away on the paved road.
Things to do: sunset sails, snorkeling trips to the Catalina Islands, and sportfishing all leave from Marina Flamingo, and several boat and dive companies are based in Potrero itself. ATV tours start in Potrero, there is a zipline about 20 minutes away, and day trips to Rincón de la Vieja National Park pick up in town. For a group of 30 or so, a private boat can cost about the same per person as shared seats, so ask us to price it both ways.
Feeding a big group: the simplest night is a chef at the estate. For a night out, a Flamingo beach restaurant, Coco Loco, has a catering arm that does buffets for 25 to 400 guests, and a restaurant group in Las Catalinas hosts private gatherings of up to 100. Tell us your numbers and we will check who can seat everyone together.
