The Naranjo River borders Manuel Antonio National Park and drops fast: a steep, technical run through jungle gorges, farmland, and palm plantations, with Class III and IV rapids nearly the whole way down. A 40 minute drive brings you to the put-in near Londres, where you get safety instructions and practice time before boarding six-passenger rafts. Every raft carries a guide calling commands, and a safety kayaker shadows the group the entire run.
You are on the water for close to two hours. There is a break at the halfway point to catch your breath and take in the gorge, and the final stretch calms down enough to float the last rapids and watch the scenery. Back at the ranch, lunch made with local ingredients is waiting.
Two things to know before booking. This tour is seasonal: the Naranjo only runs during the rainy season, May 1 to December 1, when the water is high enough. And it is rated high difficulty, with a minimum age of 10. Rafting outside those dates, or with younger kids? Ask us about the Savegre River instead.
