The farms around La Fortuna grow cacao and coffee, and a handful of family operations walk you through the whole process: the pod on the tree, the fermenting and drying, the roasting, and a bar or a cup at the end. It is an easy, short afternoon and a good one for a rainy day.
Our pick for small children is a family farm that keeps groups to fifteen and is stroller friendly. Some tours add coffee and sugar cane, and one organic farm outside town also runs a cooking class.
If you want the farm and wildlife together, the sloth walk has a three hour version that ends at a coffee, chocolate, and sugar cane farm.
What to bring. Comfortable shoes and a light rain jacket. Come hungry.
Before you book, one honest note. These prices are each operator's own published rates, which we last checked in October 2026, and they move with the season. We book this with a local operator we trust, and their confirmation is the final word on price, timing, pickup, and what you get. If a detail matters to your trip, whether that is a dietary need, a mobility question, a birthday, or a tight flight, ask us before you book and we will confirm it with them directly rather than guess.
