Most of the rainforest's life happens in the canopy, well over your head. A hanging bridges park fixes that: a loop trail on the volcano's flank crosses the treetops on suspension bridges, so birds, monkeys, and flowering trees sit at eye level instead of forty feet up.
The park we use runs a 3.2 km loop with a 1.5 km short cut, and the loop has no stairs, which makes it one of the few rainforest walks in Arenal that works with a stroller or a grandparent. You can walk it on your own, but a naturalist guide with a scope turns a pleasant walk into a wildlife morning.
The best version, if your group is ten and older, is the twilight walk at 4:30 pm: you start on the bridges in daylight and finish in the dark with flashlights, when the frogs and night insects take over.
What to bring. Closed walking shoes, a light rain jacket, insect repellent, water, and binoculars if you have them. Rain is possible any month in Arenal.
Before you book, one honest note. These prices are each operator's own published rates, which we last checked in October 2026, and they move with the season. We book this with a local operator we trust, and their confirmation is the final word on price, timing, pickup, and what you get. If a detail matters to your trip, whether that is a dietary need, a mobility question, a birthday, or a tight flight, ask us before you book and we will confirm it with them directly rather than guess.
