The rainforest you walked in daylight changes completely after sunset. Frogs come out on the leaves, insects you have never seen start moving, and birds that were flying at noon are asleep on a branch at arm's length. A guide with a strong light finds them; you would walk past almost all of it.
Night walks around La Fortuna start between 5 pm and 6 pm and last about two hours at a slow pace, so they suit almost anyone who can walk a flat trail. Several begin before dark as a twilight walk, which is the best of both: a few daytime animals, then the switch to night.
The minimum age is what decides it for families. One walk takes children from age two, most take age four and up, and the hanging bridges night walks start at ten. Tell us the ages and we will pick the right one.
What to bring. Closed shoes, long light trousers, insect repellent, and a rain jacket. Your guide carries the main light; a small flashlight of your own helps.
Before you book, one honest note. These prices are each operator's own published rates, which we last checked in October 2026, and they move with the season. We book this with a local operator we trust, and their confirmation is the final word on price, timing, pickup, and what you get. If a detail matters to your trip, whether that is a dietary need, a mobility question, a birthday, or a tight flight, ask us before you book and we will confirm it with them directly rather than guess.
