Nine self-catering apartments in two-story buildings on a forested hillside at the edge of Quepos, inside the same gated community as MA-98. Eight are two-bedroom condos with a queen bed in each room, one bathroom, a full kitchen, and a covered balcony. The ninth is a studio for two. They all share a large pool with a small round pool beside it, a grill with stone picnic tables, and the guard at the community gate around the clock.
This is the budget end of our Manuel Antonio list: condos from $49 a night and the studio from $50, before tax and the manager's service fee. It works well for couples, small families, and longer stays. Housekeeping comes twice a week, the laundry room on site runs for a small fee, and the fiber wifi is fast enough for video calls. Guests write about capuchin monkeys on the balconies, toucans and scarlet macaws over the pool, and a trail to a waterfall and swimming hole at the top of the property. Across the nine listings the manager shows close to 600 reviews, almost all of them five stars.
Groups can book several units side by side. Each condo books on its own, so two families can take two condos next door to each other, and a wedding party or a retreat can take the whole complex: all nine together sleep up to 34. We list the complex as MA-99. Tell us your dates and group size and we check which units are open and get the exact total from the manager.
| Units | Beds | Sleeps | From, a night |
|---|---|---|---|
| Six two-bedroom condos | Two queens, one bath | 4 each | $49 |
| Two updated two-bedroom condos | Two queens, one bath | 4 each | $79 |
| One studio | One queen, one bath | 2 | $50 |
| All nine together | 17 queens, nine baths | 34 | Ask us |
Which unit? For two people the studio is the cheapest bed in the complex and still has its own kitchen. For three or four, any condo works. The two updated condos (new sofas, wood-slat walls, and a green kitchen in the photos) run about $30 to $50 a night more than the other six, which keep their bamboo furniture and bright painted walls. If anyone struggles with stairs, ask for a ground-floor unit, and if you are booking several, ask for neighbors.
This is the main thing to know before booking. The complex sits on a steep hill: the drive up to the parking is short but very steep, with a sharp bend, and several guests say a 4x4 or a high-clearance car makes it easier, especially in the rain. From the parking, flights of concrete steps lead up to the buildings, and the upper condos have another flight inside. There is no elevator and no step-free route, so the complex does not suit anyone who cannot manage stairs. Walking into Quepos is easy going down and a stiff climb coming back; plenty of guests take a taxi back up, which is cheap in town. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, ask us and we will confirm the details with the manager before you book.
| Unit | Rate |
|---|---|
| Two-bedroom condo | from $49 a night, most nights $90 to $150 |
| Updated two-bedroom condo | from $79 a night, most nights $135 to $199 |
| Studio | from $50 a night, most nights $80 to $90 |
The lowest rates are short-notice nights. Condo rates cover two guests; the third and fourth add $15 a night each. Costa Rica's 13 percent tax and a service fee go on top, half is due at booking, and the minimum stay runs from one to five nights depending on the date. Over Christmas and New Year it is three to five nights, with no check-in or check-out on Christmas Day or New Year's Day. Tell us your dates and group size and we come back with an exact total.
Our stay was wonderful! The place is located perfectly between Quepos and Manuel Antonio, everything we did was just a short drive away. We were able to see lots of monkeys, birds, and iguanas from the patio! Everything was clean and they even offered cleanings at no extra charge, which they schedule with you beforehand. The staff was responsive and friendly. They provide directions to the waterfall on the property. It’s a short hike to a beautiful and private swimming hole you can’t miss while staying. The property was a bit tricky to get to, but once you figure it out it’s easy. We enjoyed our stay!
Loved our stay! The space was beautiful and clean, surrounded by nature, and the host was friendly and helpful. Only thing of note is that the apartment is up a long flight of stairs at the top of a very steep hill, and our truck struggled a little with the hill. Not unmanageable at all, but worth knowing, especially if you have issues with climbing stairs. But well worth it, if you're ok with that! Would definitely stay here again!
We enjoyed our stay here-the pool was fun and it was a great location for visiting Manuel Antonio! We had an incident with the monkeys coming into our room(open window) to steal some fruit that was initially very startling but ended up being something that we laugh about now. Just make sure to keep the windows closed and you’ll be fine! We saw lots of other animals at the pool including toucans and large iguanas. The staff were very responsive and helpful. We would stay here again!
Roomy, clean and well maintained space. Beautiful view with lots of wildlife around! Being only a few minutes away from downtown Quepos is perfect for quick access to beaches, restaurant and activities, all while being just enough away to enjoy some quiet time. Host is very responsive and the people at the main office are super helpful and friendly!
Lots of room in the studio first floor apartment. Even on first floor still had stairs to climb as the hills in area are steep. [The host] was very responsive. Wife requested a hair dryer and they delivered within 2 minutes. Pool area was awesome surrounded by trees. Felt like you were in a jungle forest. Vey clean. More wildlife and birds than any other Airbnb we stayed at. Great accommodation.
Had a great time staying here. The place was spacious and comfortable with nice beds and comfortable air conditioning and fans for circulation. We had everything we needed to make meals at home when we wanted to relax between activities. The location is perfectly nestled between Manuel Antonio and Quepos which made it easy to get to. Our only regret is not using the pool more.
The gated community and the hills around it above Quepos, rainforest on every side. Five minutes down to the marina, about fifteen to the park.
