Three-story cream house with arched windows and an outside staircase among palms and forest in Manuel Antonio (MA-81)
Pacific Canyon Drive, Manuel Antonio

Five-bedroom ocean view villa with private pool

Five-bedroom ocean view villa with private pool

Five bedrooms and three bathrooms for up to 10 guests, on three levels near the top of the hill in Manuel Antonio, in the gated Pacific Canyon Drive community. The manager describes shops and restaurants as within walking distance, and guests put the walk at five to ten minutes, up a steep hill. Forest wraps around the house, and the top floor looks over the canopy to the Pacific.

The house is built from wood and stone, with arched windows, terracotta floors, and painted trees climbing the columns. You come in to the kitchen, a dining table for ten made from tree slabs, and a sectional sofa with a smart TV. The main bedroom and its own bathroom are on this floor. A winding wooden staircase leads to the second level, where three bedrooms share one large bathroom. Another flight climbs to the fifth bedroom, the most private in the house, and to the terrace where guests take their morning coffee with the ocean in view. There is air conditioning, ceiling fans, a pool table, board games, and a desk for remote work.

Outside, a stone patio with sofas, sun loungers, an outdoor sink, and a gas grill steps down to the pool deck. The pool is long and narrow, curves along the edge of the trees, and is partly shaded. Guests write about capuchin, howler, and squirrel monkeys, sloths, coatis, and scarlet macaws seen from the deck and the balconies, and about the howlers starting some mornings before dawn. Entry is keyless, with your own code, and housekeeping comes every other day except Sundays and holidays. Of the 67 guest reviews we found for this house, 61 give it the top score and the other six the next one down.

We list this house as MA-81. Tell us your dates and group size and we confirm availability and the exact total with the manager, then sort out the rest: airport transfers, a private chef, and a guide for the national park.

Access and stairs

Every floor is joined by stairs, and the upper two are reached by stairs only, so this is a house for guests who are steady on their feet. The main bedroom and its bathroom share the first floor with the kitchen and dining area.

The driveway down to the house is very steep, and guests mention it in almost every review. The manager recommends a four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. Many guests drive it without trouble, and a 12-seat van has made it down, but one group's van could not get back up and they carried their luggage. It is slower and more nerve-racking in the rain, and parking for two cars is tight. The walk up to the restaurants, a grocery store, and an ATM is short but steep; the beach is about five minutes away by car, taxi, or the bus from the bottom of the hill. If you are not renting a car, we arrange transfers, and taxis come right to the front steps. Like much of Manuel Antonio, the house can lose power for a few hours in a big storm. If anyone in your group has limited mobility, ask us and we will check the details with the manager before you book.

What guests say

We had a fantastic stay at [the house]. We were two families travelling together, 4 adults and our children (including 4 teenagers) and the house offered ample space and bathrooms for all of us. The property is very well located close to restaurants and bars in Manuel Antonio (walking distance) and has a lovely view out to sea from the balcony. The house is surrounded by forest and monkeys and exotic birds are frequent visitors. The howler monkeys are something to behold - when we first heard them, we thought we’d been transported to Jurassic park!! Highlights of our stay were the surf lesson organised by the concierge, Jorge, and two delicious meals prepared by the in house chef. Shout out to Jorge too for his help getting our son seen by a doctor on our last night - he was super responsive and we were very grateful! We all loved [the house] and would highly recommend it to anyone seeking their own slice of tropical paradise!

[The house] was perfect! Our family of 8 - age 21 - 78 spent 6 nights at [the house]. The house was very clean, very well stocked, and had plenty of room for all of us. Jorge and his team was very responsive, and very helpful for places to eat, car service, and a discount code for the local grocery store! The views from the balcony are amazing! The driveway is very steep, but that is clear in the listing. It is walkable, but we did reserve a rental car, and I would suggest that just to make it easier. We did the ATV tour, the catamaran, and had a chef one night for dinner. I would highly recommend all! We will definately be back.

The house was amazing the the views from the top balcony were incredible. The kitchen was well-equipped and the beds were comfortable. The location was very central to what we wanted to do in Manuel Antonio. We had to drive to the beach but we could walk to restaurants and shops. There is a very steep driveway which is very clear in the listing. We didn't have problems driving or walking up or down but I can see this may be a problem for some people. We had the most trouble trying to park when other cars were in the parking area. The highlight for us was the monkeys that surround the house. They were so fun to watch!

The stay at [The house] was perfect for our group. The biggest problem was the steep driveway we could not get our van up. We ended up needed to carry everything including all our luggage up the extremely steep driveway. Overall the house is a great setup for groups. There were a few tiny things that happened like leaks during rain but overall it was a lovely stay at a unique property.

We loved staying at [the house]- the space and the amount of wildlife around us were amazing! Our family of 6 enjoyed the number of rooms and the ability to control the temperature separately for each of them. The view from the house is amazing! Monkey, birds, raccoons, coati and snakes visited us often. The only notes we had to share on the house were that the driveway is incredibly steep- especially a little nerve racking the first time in the rain. Be sure to have a vehicle that can handle steep terrain. Also, with the rain, the tree above the house drops little acorn like figs. With a tin roof the upper level rooms get a rainforest symphony all night. This wouldn’t really apply outside of rainy season. We loved the location of this house, and Jorge was fabulous when we needed his help. We would stay here again.

Our family of 7 had an absolutely fabulous holiday. [the house] is the best place we’ve ever stayed, a spacious, beautiful villa in the rainforest with sea views in a great location. It was so nice to cool off and relax in the infinity pool at the end of the day. We saw so much wildlife from the villa! Capuchin, Howler and Squirrel monkeys visited everyday and we also saw a Sloth , Coatis and Macows. Jorge was a really helpful concierge who made sure we had everything we needed and arranged taxis and recommended places to visit. We had a barbecue on a couple of evenings and walked to local restaurants, all delicious but our favourite was El Avion. Vegan options available in most restaurants. Before we arrived, I communicated with Hazel who arranged our transfers and trips. The horse riding to a waterfall and the mangrove tour were our favourites. We saw dolphins on the Catamaran trip and visited the National park, all these trips are a must. We will hopefully return one day.
