Manuel Antonio is unusual in Costa Rica because you do not have to move to see the country. Sit still on this ridge and the rainforest, the mangroves, three whitewater rivers, a working marina, and a national park are all inside an hour. Most of our 20 tours pick up at your villa door.
The national park is the headline, and it genuinely rewards a guide, because a good one carries a scope and finds the sloth you would walk straight past. Beyond it, the Damas mangroves run on the tide and are the best chance of seeing silky anteaters, caimans, and four kinds of monkey in one morning.
Catamarans out of Marina Pez Vela for snorkelling and sunset, sea kayaks through the estuary, and, from July to October and again December to March, humpback whales offshore. Serious anglers should start at our Quepos sportfishing page instead.
The Savegre is the family river, class II and III through rainforest with a lunch stop. The Naranjo and El Chorro sections are class III and IV and run seasonally, El Chorro from January to May and the Naranjo from May to December, because water level decides rather than the calendar.
Farm to table cooking, chocolate and coffee tours inland, and a night walk that turns the same forest you hiked in daylight into a completely different place.
20 trips, all with pickup from the Manuel Antonio and Quepos hillside.
